We’re proud to be partnering with Libro.fm and in our capacity as the Liverpool Chapter of the Silent Book Club to present a special Read-In for Banned Books Week.

When we think of banned books our first thought is generally of the books that are challenged in schools and libraries across the country. While censorship is at the center of an injustice that we are constantly fighting against, it’s just one piece of the greater war against content that speaks to race, gender identity, and the lived experiences of marginalized communities.

As adults participating in a read-in, it is of course worthwhile to the books that communities are trying to keep their children from reading. I also challenge you to select a book that while it may not be officially banned in a school, shares a story of someone that lives a life that would see them banned by the fascists and racists of our country. Whether that’s a novel about a happy Trans person, the memoir of an incarcerated person, or a guidebook for how to change the rhetoric around sexual assault, or anything else that gives you the fortitude to keep fighting, we’d love for you to bring it.

This event will include one hour of silent reading and the option to socialize at the end to share what books everyone is reading.

Attendees will also receive a free audio copy of either Banned Together or How to Defend Books and Why 🎧
The event is free but registration is required in order to provide seats.
